Dennis C. Sweet, IV
Dennis Charles Sweet IV was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Dennis revived his Bachelors of Arts (B.A.) from Tougaloo College in 2004. He received his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 2008. He received his Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Litigation and Dispute Resolution from The George Washington University Law School in 2011.
While in Law School Dennis was on the Deans List, a member of BLSA, and a member of Phi Alpha Delta. He also served a member of the Law School Admissions Committee. As a member of the Law School Admissions Committee he worked in conjunction with the Dean to manage the admission process, recruit law students, and evaluate law school applications. Also, while in Law School he worked as a Clinic Associate for the Thurgood Marshall Legal Clinic. As a Clinic Associate he worked with a supervising attorney to supply free legal representation to indigent criminal defendants. This gave him the opportunity to try misdemeanor criminal cases while in Law School. He also served as a Clinical Associate for the Innocence Project where he worked to exonerate wrongfully convicted people through DNA testing. In Law School Dennis clerked for the Public Defenders Service of Washington, D.C. where he worked under licensed attorneys to provide legal representation to indigent criminal defendants in Washington, D.C.
After Law School Dennis decided to further his legal education by attending the Master of Laws program at The George Washington University Law School. Dennis excelled in the program and graduated with a 3.49 grade point average. Courses from the program included: The College of Trial Advocacy, Advanced Trial Practice, Advanced Evidence, Pre-Trial Criminal Practice, Advanced Civil Litigation, Mediation, The American Jury, and International Dispute Resolution.
Dennis has been licensed to practice law in Mississippi since 2008. He works for Sweet & Associates Law Firm where he specializes in civil litigation, civil rights, personal injury, medical malpractice, premises liability, and criminal defense. He has represented a wide range of criminal defendants from individuals charged with misdemeanor possession to individuals charged with capitol murder. He has worked on an tried several multimillion dollar civil litigation cases including a 23 million dollar jury verdict against the Jackson Marriott and The City of Jackson for the shooting of an unarmed man by an off-duty Jackson Police Officerand a 2 million dollar jury verdict against Baptist Hospital for medical malpractice.
Dennis is actively involved in community service. He has volunteered for Hurricane Katrina Relief where he helped Hurricane Katrina victims relocate from New Orleans, Louisiana to Houston, Texas. He has served as a member of the First Christian Church of Elgin Missionary, where he traveled abroad to spread the word of Jesus Christ and build free day-cares in impoverished communities. Also, he has volunteered for the Boys and Girls club where he mentored young boys.
Dennis enjoys sports, traveling, politics, community development, and computers. |
